Authorship
The author list of an article is important for ensuring the integrity of the content and assumes that all the people listed as authors have been actively involved in one or more key aspects of the study presented and responsible for the integrity of the results.
According to the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Publishers (www.icmje.org), the authors mentioned in an article must meet four criteria:
- Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work;
- Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content;
- Final approval of the version to be published;
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
The collective of the authors have full responsibility to establish whether all the persons included in list of authors meet the 4 criteria stated above; the journal is not involved in establishing the authorship or in arbitrating author conflicts. The institutions in which the work is done, not our journal, should mediate any conflicts to determining the authorship.
When the paper is authored by a multi-institutional team, the group should identify the people who accept responsibility for the contents of the manuscript. This people should meet the 4 criteria for authorship. The designated people will sign the copyright form with Surgery, Gastroenterology and Oncology.
CORRESPONDING AUTHOR
The list of authors and author order must be agreed between all the listed authors, who must identify the corresponding author.
The corresponding author assumes responsibility for keeping in touch with Surgery, Gastroenterology and Oncology throughout the entire manuscript submission process, peer review, editing and publication. It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to inform all authors of any editorial questions and to act on behalf of all co-authors.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Other people who have contributed to the article (e.g. writing assistance, technical editing, language editing and proofreading, etc.) who do not meet the four criteria for authorship should be included in the Acknowledgments section with details on their role. All people mentioned in the Acknowledgments section must provide written consent to the authors that they agree to be included.
