Vertical Bipartition of the Right Anterior Section by Extraglissonian Approach
By positioning the right anterior section (RAS) in the right hemiliver, the classic right hepatectomy (RH), sectionectomy or segmentectomy concept is not always appropriate for this section.
Besides the classic Couinaud cranio-caudal division of RAS, there is also a vertical bipartition of RAS in two subsections (ventral and dorsal) based both on the portal systematization of the tertiary Glissonian pedicles spatial distribution and on the supra hepatic Couinaud systematization.
This study discusses the anatomical basis of the extra-Glissonian resections, as well as various types of extra-Glissonian resection involving the two RAS subsections and sparing liver parenchyma.
