Background and Aim: Acute Mesenteric Ischemia (AMI) is a serious vascular emergency with significant fatality and a jumping rate in covid-19 patients. This research investigated many of the cases diagnosed with COVID-19 that were identified with the diagnosis of AMI, and it presented the primary and secondary outcomes, including mortality, with their predictors.
Materials and Methods: The study was conducted at four centers managing COVID-19 patients diagnosed with AMI in two countries between March 1, 2020, and July 1, 2023.
Background: there is ongoing debate on the effectiveness of management of papillary thyroid cancer using prophylactic central lymph node dissection. In order to assess the effectiveness and safety of prophylactic central compartment lymph node removal in patients with papillary thyroid cancer, we conducted a randomized prospective study.
Material and Methods: we evaluated 40 candidates with papillary thyroid cancer with the ages between 20 and 70. In this parallel group randomized comparative study. There was no presence of lymph node or d....[more]
Background: The cases classified as Bethesda III - Atypia of Undetermined Significance (AUS)/Follicular Lesion of Undetermined Significance (FLUS) are seen as a “gray zone” in thyroid cytopathology. Many previous studies have shown a wide variation in malignancy rates of Bethesda III thyroid nodules in different regions and institutions across the world. Objective: We want to describe the differential malignancy rates of FNACs diagnosed as Bethesda III based on cytological sub-classification and to assess the significance of demographic and ultrasonogr....[more]
Background: Gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy are weight-loss surgeries that significantly reduce obesity, impacting reproductive health by altering total sperm count. Aim: to ascertain the impact of gastric bypass and gastric sleeve surgeries on hormonal levels, reproductive health, and alterations in total sperm count in patients with morbid obesity.
Material and Method: A total of 67 obese patients who had undergone both gastric bypass and gastric sleeve operations were recruited to the study, with an age range of 30 – 60 year....[more]
Objective: to evaluate the outcomes of laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with D2 lymph node dissection as a treatment for advanced gastric cancer in three major hospitals in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Material and Methods: a retrospective study was conducted on patients with advanced gastric cancer who underwent laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with D2 lymph node dissection between January 2017 and December 2021.
Results: a total of 119 patients were included in the study, consisting of 85 males and 34 females. All patients had ....[more]
Aim: The benefits of laparoscopic approach over open surgery have been demonstrated in recent decades and development of Single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) aimed to reduce invasiveness of multiport laparoscopy. Our aim is to compare results of single incision laparoscopic (SILS) appendectomy and multiport laparoscopic (MPL) appendectomy in this prospective study.
Material and Methods: 25 consecutive patients who underwent SILS appendectomy (group 1) were compared with 25 patients who underwent MPL appendectomy (group 2) during the....[more]
Background: Gallstone disease (GSD) is a prevalent illness worldwide. Study aimed to investigate the association of Xbal (rs 693) G/A and TLR4 – rs 4986791 C/T genes with gallbladder disease.
Material and Methods: Over the course of three months, from October 2020 to December 2021, samples were taken from fifty healthy persons and one hundred patients with a diagnosis of gall bladder infection from Al. Hilla Teaching Hospital. The patients' ages ranged from fifteen to seventy-one years. TLR4 –rs 4986791 C/T and Xbal (rs 693....[more]
Background: Breast cancer (BC) is the most prevalent and lethal among female cancers. To reduce the risk of radiation-induced lung damage, a technique employed for left-sided breast cancer is the Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH). The study aimed to assess the impact of DIBH using the ABC device on lung dosage in left breast cancer radiotherapy.
Material and Methods: A dosimetric study was conducted involving 50 females diagnosed with left breast cancer. Treatment was conducted at Baghdad ROC using 3DCRT and at Al-Safeer Oncology Center.....[more]

Background: Antitumor drug resistance and side effects of antitumor compounds are the most common problems in medicine. Therefore, finding new natural compounds with antitumor activity with low side effects could be interesting.
Methods: This study was designed to assay the antitumor activity of the extract from Staphylococcus aureus, against breast cancer, the research was performed as an in vitro study. The effect of the EPS extract on the proliferation of MCF-7 cell lines was measured by MTT.
Results: Morphologi....[more]
Background: anastomotic leakage stays one adverse post-operative complication for gastrointestinal surgeons either regarding its prevention or its early diagnosis. Anastomotic leakage may lead to prolonged hospital stay, increased morbidity and mortality from ensuing sepsis. Purpose: to evaluate the value of using bilirubin concentration in serum and the peritoneal drain fluid as predictive biomarkers for anastomotic leakage.
Material and Methods: this prospective cohort study was conducted at the department of Surgery, Kasralainy School o....[more]
Background: Among the most common malignancies worldwide, bladder cancer is among the most common. Iraq has seen a dramatic spike in the number of reported cases and deaths from this illness over the last few decades. Aim. Examining interleukin-10 expression in human bladder cancer with the main objective of discovering relevant connections between it and clinic-pathological variables is the fundamental purpose of this study. Using this marker to differentiate between basal and luminal bladder tumors is another goal.

Human activities like the radioactive sources usage in radiotherapy for cancer tend to negatively impact the environment. Some radioactive sources are associated with pharmaceutical preparations with high levels of natural radioactivity. This is what occurs in all oncology treatment centers. Therefore, the study's objective was to examine the health risk posed by naturally occurring radiation from Middle Euphrates center(MECC) cancer and the area close to it. In this work, gamma spectrometric analysis NaI(Tl) of (3"×3") was done to determine the ....[more]
